Petrolo Bòggina B 2023

Bòggina B, born in Valdarno di Sopra (Tuscany), Petrolo Bòggina B 2023 is Luca Sanjust's tribute to the great historic whites of the area. Trebbiano del Valdarno has been celebrated since the 14th century, when it was sent to Rome and the courts of Florence. Since 2014, this memory has taken on a modern form in this white wine with character and enormous capacity for evolution.

Vinification and aging: manual harvest in boxes, with double selection (bunches and berries) on a sorting table. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in tonneaux. This is followed by aging sur lies for over 15 months in carefully selected French tonneaux, with regular bâtonnage in the first few months (then less frequently) and no racking before bottling.

Tasting notes (producer/technical sheet): a white wine with a Burgundian profile and Tuscan precision: aromas of flowers, ripe citrus fruits, and herbs, with nuances of almond, beeswax, and wet stone. Creamy but tense on the palate, with bright acidity and a long, mineral, and saline finish. The 2023 vintage stands out for its aromatic intensity and depth, while maintaining focus and freshness.

Grape varieties: 100% Trebbiano Toscano (organic certification)

Amazing aromas of honeysuckle, grapefruit, heather, rosemary, Meyer lemon and hints of blanched almonds. It’s medium- to full-bodied with a creamy texture and nougat flavors, as well as esters and lavender honey. Hint of beeswax, too. Burgundy method with ancient trebbiano vines. New standard for Italian whites. From organically grown grapes. Drink and enjoy.

A great quality white wine, thoroughly impressive, delivering fleshy white pear and peach, sage, crushed rocks, toasted almonds, white truffle, lemongrass. Stretches out through the palate. Organic farming.

An excellent interpretation of Trebbiano, the Petrolo 2023 Bòggina B, bottled with its distinctive yellow wax capsule, stands out decisively among the white wines tasted in this report. The level of workmanship and complexity is striking, with layers of stone fruit and spice interwoven with a delicate mineral thread that ultimately makes all the difference. These contrasting elements land on the palate with clarity and impact, resulting in a wine that delivers pleasure on multiple levels. Aged in tonneaux for 15 to 18 months, this Trebbiano was released with a touch of reduction to preserve freshness and aromatic lift. Production totals 10,000 bottles, plus larger formats.

The 2023 Trebbiano Boggina B is one of the best vintages of this wine I have tasted. Aromatic, layered and super-expressive, the 2023 is an absolute delight from the very first taste. Floral overtones meld into apricot, peach, almond, chamomile and dried herbs. Fermentation in barrel leaves a slightly phenolic, bitter character that is quite appealing. The long, substantial finish is eternal. The Boggina B spent 20-22 months in 500-liter barrels, with some lees-stirring.
