Viúva Gomes Viticultores Branco 2023
Viúva Gomes Viticultores White 2023 (Lisboa IGP)
Viúva Gomes Viticultores White 2023 (Lisboa IGP) is the most “village” expression from the Colares estate: an Atlantic white wine created to showcase small terroirs and the work of local winegrowers, revealing the identity of Sintra beyond the DO.
2023 Harvest
A productive year of good quality, with marked freshness: 11.5% vol., lively acidity (pH 3.32; 7.1 g/L) and an ideal window 2025–2030. Very limited batch (~1,600 bottles) and highly recommended (RP 94).
Vinification
Grapes from three plots (Colares, São João das Lampas, and São Martinho) – young vines (approx. 7 years old), grafted and outside the sand, therefore outside the Colares DO register. Whole bunch pressing and vinification by variety in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts; then blended and aged in chestnut and mahogany barrels/casks (approx. 1,000 L) for about 10 months.
Tasting Notes
Precise aroma of herbs and citrus, green apple and a hint of chipped stone, with a slight smoky/reductive touch. On the palate, it is vibrant, dry and tense, with pungent flavors, marked minerality and a long finish with a saline twist. It shines with seafood, grilled fish, and Asian cuisine.
Grape Varieties
Malvasia de Colares (80%), Arinto (10%), and Fernão Pires (10%).

The 2023 Viticultores Branco was produced with a diversity of grapes from seven-year-old vines, 80% Malvasía de Colares from an old massal selection and 10% each Fernão Pires and Arinto from three plots within Colares. These vineyards are grafted and not on sand, so they do not have the right to be in the Colares appellation. The full clusters were pressed and fermented by variety in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and then blended and put in the cask to age. It matured in a 1,000-liter chestnut and mahogany cask. It has contained ripeness and alcohol, 11.5%, a pH of 3.332 and 7.1 grams of acidity. Malvasía is an herbal and vegetal variety, quite straight, and it has a more reductive character here, flinty and faintly smoky. It has a vibrant palate with pungent flavors and a salty twist. I love it. I think it's stunning. This is the first vintage, a productive year, not as good as 2021 but better than 2022. With time in the glass, it made me think of a white from Bairrada, more specifically, from Quinta das Bágeiras, all stones and sea breeze. 1,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2025.
