Weingut Keller Westhofen Riesling Auslese 2017 is one of Klaus-Peter Keller's cult sweet wines, an absolute benchmark for Riesling in Rheinhessen. It is born on the limestone slopes of Westhofen, from grapes from two legendary vineyards, Morstein and Abts E., in a blend designed to showcase the more delicate and hedonistic side of the Keller house. 2017 saw frosts and low yields, but also very concentrated ripening. In Westhofen, this resulted in small bunches, high natural acidity and extremely pure aromas - ideal for a Riesling Auslese with a great balance between sweetness and freshness and enormous ageing potential.

Vinification: Late harvest by hand, with berry-by-berry selection of very ripe fruit, some of it with noble Botrytis. Pressing is gentle and the must ferments slowly with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and large used vats, stopping naturally to preserve residual sugar, low alcohol content and the mineral expression of the limestone.

Tasting notes: Bright golden colour. The nose reveals layers of ripe peach and apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, citrus blossom and honey, underpinned by a very clear limestone minerality. On the palate, it is silky and intense, with generous sweetness perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity; the finish is long, salty and incredibly fresh, inviting another sip. Perfect for elegant desserts, blue cheeses or simply to contemplate.
