Weingut Keller Nierstein Hipping Riesling Auslese Gold Cap 2016
Weingut Keller Nierstein Hipping Riesling Auslese Gold Cap 2016
Weingut Keller Nierstein Hipping Riesling Auslese Gold Cap 2016 is born on the legendary Hipping slope, on the ‘Roter Hang’, a plot of red clayey schist facing the Rhine in Rheinhessen. The Keller family, led by Klaus-Peter Keller, produces some of Germany's most coveted Rieslings here, and this gold cap Auslese is one of their sweet rarities. 2016 combined moderate yields with a balanced summer and long ripening, allowing for the harvest of very healthy grapes with great aromatic purity, firm acidity and high natural sugars - ideal for a concentrated, elegant Auslese with enormous ageing potential.
Vinification: Late harvest, by hand, with berry-by-berry selection of very ripe bunches partially affected by noble Botrytis. After gentle pressing, the must ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and large used wooden vats, stopping naturally to preserve residual sugar, low alcohol and the mineral expression of the terroir.
Tasting notes: The nose reveals intense notes of apricot and peach in syrup, citrus blossom, honey and mineral touches linked to Hipping's red schist. On the palate, it is silky and concentrated, with layers of tropical fruit and crystallised fruit balanced by refreshing acidity and a creamy texture. The finish is very long and rich, leaving notes of fruit in syrup, light spice and a salty sensation that invites you to take another sip.

On the nose, a touch herbal. And seems sweeter than the Schloss Lieser Bernkasteler Doctor Spätlese auction wine just tasted but the sweetness of super-ripe apricot is balanced by a touch of bitter orange. Intense yet still has the lightness to be scented on the mid palate. Racy, honeyed and endlessly pleasurable.
