Cartuxa Pêra Manca White 2023
Cartuxa Pêra Manca White 2023 is the iconic white wine of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation. The Pêra-Manca designation is reserved only for the winery's truly exceptional wines, produced in years when the winemaking team considers that the level of quality justifies it. The white wine first appeared in 1990 and has since become a benchmark among the great white wines of the Alentejo. Coming from the estate's own vineyards in the Évora sub-region, on granite soils, it combines full ripeness with firm acidity, resulting in a dry, structured profile with the potential to evolve for a few years in the bottle.
Vinification: When the grapes reach the ideal point, they are harvested, completely destemmed, gently crushed and pressed, followed by cooling and clarification of the must. Part of the batch ferments in stainless steel tanks and the other in French oak barrels at 16ºC. All the wine is aged for 12 months on fine lees, with periodic bâtonnage, before further refinement in the bottle.
Tasting notes: Bright citrus/straw colour. The aroma is dominated by white-fleshed fruit, notes of dried vegetables and a touch of minerality, enveloped by very subtle smoky hints, in a fine and complex ensemble. On the palate, it is dry, elegant and creamy, with lively acidity, a well-defined medium body and a long, persistent and slightly bitter finish, which calls for fatty fish dishes, baked seafood or Mediterranean cuisine.
Grape varieties: Arinto and Antão Vaz
