Quinta do Vallado Adelaide 2017
Quinta do Vallado Adelaide 2017
Quinta do Vallado Adelaide Red 2017 is a great wine that pays tribute to Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a leading figure in the Douro region. It comes from a single plot in the Torto River Valley, with very old vines planted in the early 20th century, a density of 7,000 plants/ha and very low yields. Produced only in truly exceptional years and in very small quantities, it is one of the rarest reds from the historic Quinta do Vallado, founded in 1716.
Vinification: After careful manual selection, the grapes are completely destemmed and fermented in stainless steel vats at around 24ºC, with mechanical pumping over by robot for 9 days. Malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in new 225L French oak barrels for 20 months, refining the tannins and aromatic complexity.
Tasting notes: A very concentrated red wine with a deep ruby colour. On the nose, black and wild fruits, dried fig, black plum, balsamic notes of oak wood and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, full and firm, with satiny tannins, dense but elegant texture, mineral hints and a long, complex and very persistent finish, where ripe fruit, spices and a fresh hint of schist return.
Grape varieties: Field blend of more than 30 indigenous grape varieties from old vines, including Touriga Franca, Rufete, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional, Bastardo, Mourisco, Malvasia Preta and other rare varieties from the Douro.
