Legado Fernando Guedes 2018

Legado Fernando Guedes 2018 is Sogrape's great tribute red wine. Born in the century-old vineyards of Quinta do Caêdo, it celebrates the best that the Douro has to offer and pays homage to the vision of Fernando Guedes and his family, preserving the memory of this unique terroir in every bottle. 2018 began with a cold, dry winter, followed by an extremely rainy spring, which was essential for replenishing the soil's water reserves. The summer brought more stable conditions, allowing for slow and balanced ripening in the old vines and resulting in a wine of unusual elegance, great freshness and enormous ageing potential.

Vinification: Hand-picked. Traditional vinification, with temperature control and the use of selected yeasts. After fermentation, it ages for around 30 months in French oak barrels before being bottled and resting in the cellar until it achieves the harmony that characterises the Legado style.

Tasting notes: Deep ruby colour. The aroma is very intense and complex, with notes of shrubbery, olive paste, floral nuances, ripe black fruits, stony character and excellent quality wood, perfectly integrated. On the palate, it shows remarkable volume, firm but fine tannins, crisp acidity and layers of black fruit, herbs and olives, ending long, elegant and sophisticated - a great Douro from old vines.

Grape varieties: Field blend of pre-phylloxera old vines, with around 20 traditional Douro grape varieties planted in the same vineyard.
