Natura Pinot Noir 2018: Vitor Matos e Dirk Niepoort
Natura Pinot Noir 2018
Natura By Vítor Matos Pinot Noir 2018 is the signature red wine of the partnership between chef Vítor Matos and Dirk Niepoort, produced at Quinta de Baixo, in the heart of Bairrada. With only 740 bottles and 80 magnums, it is a low-production Pinot that seeks to show, without artifice, the delicate character of the grape variety in a clay and limestone terroir.
Vintage 2018
The 2018 wine year was demanding: heavy rain between January and May, scarce but high-quality fruit and the need for extreme care in the vineyard. The summer brought high temperatures and good water reserves in the soil, allowing for complete ripening.
Vinification
A lightly extracted red wine, with initial fermentation in vats and subsequent ageing for 28 months in 500-litre French oak barrels. It was bottled without filtration and remained in the bottle for six months before being released onto the market, maintaining all the purity of Pinot Noir.
Tasting notes
It has a light, almost translucent colour. The nose is vibrant and very complex, with fine spices, notes of grape stems, earthy touches of clay/limestone and elegant floral aromas. In the mouth, it is fresh and still very young, with lively acidity, fine tannins and a long, tense and refreshing finish that perfectly expresses the Bairrada terroir. A red wine with enormous ageing potential.
