Ruinart 'R de Ruinart' Brut

Ruinart ‘R de Ruinart’ Brut is the signature cuvée of the oldest Champagne house, founded in 1729 in Reims. It is the calling card of the Ruinart style: elegant, luminous and based on the freshness of Chardonnay, combined with the structure of the region's red grape varieties. It is made from 40-50 crus from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, and is the perfect Champagne to discover the spirit of the maison. It is not a vintage wine, but a blend of several years, with around 20-30% reserve wines to ensure consistency and complexity.

Vinification: Grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation to gain volume in the mouth. Long ageing in historic chalk cellars before dégorgement, well above the minimum required, and receives a dosage of around 7-8g/L, maintaining the balance between creaminess and freshness (12% vol.).

Tasting notes: Vibrant yellow colour with golden reflections and delicate foam. The nose is subtle and complex: Reineta apple and pear, apricot, almonds and fresh hazelnuts, hints of white flowers and a background of brioche and buttery pastries. On the palate, it is round and harmonious, with notes of ripe orchard fruit, plum and nectarine, enveloped by a fine acidity that lengthens the finish and invites the next sip. Very versatile!

Grape varieties: 40% Chardonnay, 40–45% Pinot Noir and 10–15% Meunier

Ruinart, one of Champagne's oldest brands, produces a fresh, delicate style of non-vintage, with a soft mousse and good bottle age toast and yeast. The wine is edged with citrus, giving a fresh, apéritif style of Champagne.

Bready nose with some real interest. Solid stuff – something to get your teeth into, in a good way. Very clean and neat and tastes as though it had quite a bit of age on lees.

Light greenish yellow, silver reflections, fine persistent mousse. White apple fruit with a hint of lime zest, delicate hazelnut, candied orange zest. Juicy, fine yellow tropical fruit, pleasant acidity, mineral touch, discreet blossom honey on the finish; versatile.

A glaze of caramel is stretched over a wide array of candied fruit aromas, the balance of ripeness and mineral freshness spot on, the finish long and moderately structured. Drink now.
