Cartuxa Reserva Red 2019: Wine of the Year Revista de Vinhos 2025
Cartuxa Reserva Red 2019 was chosen on February 6, 2026, as Wine of the Year by Revista de Vinhos 2025. It is one of the great classics of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, inspired by the Carthusian monks who, since 1587, have lived in prayer at the Monastery of Santa Maria Scala Coeli in Évora. First produced in 1987, it is the result of a careful selection of the oldest vines, grown on granite soils, where concentration always appears with elegance. The year 2019 was marked by Cartuxa Reserva Red being distinguished as Wine of the Year for the first time!
Vinification: grapes harvested at the ideal point, with total destemming and light crushing. The grape varieties ferment separately in stainless steel vats and French oak vats at 27 °C, followed by 15 days of maceration. It ages for 15 months in new French oak barrels and rests for 48 months in the bottle, refining its texture and complexity.
Tasting notes: deep garnet color; aromas of plum and fig, with notes of dried fruit/raisins, undergrowth, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and classic, with firm tannins, quality fruit, and a long, persistent finish.
Grape varieties: Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, and Cabernet Sauvignon
