Hugo Mendes Rosé 2023

Hugo Mendes Rosé 2023 is the signature rosé of Ribatejo winemaker Hugo Mendes, a born communicator of Portuguese wine, deeply connected to the Tejo terroir. Made from Touriga Nacional, it showcases the producer's vision: serious, dry, very fresh rosés with personality, designed for the table and not just for summer. In the 2023 harvest, the aim was to maintain lively fruit, crisp acidity and a moderate alcohol content (12.5%), resulting in a light but structured rosé that shines in the first few years after bottling and can withstand 3 to 4 years of evolution.

Vinification: Touriga Nacional is harvested by hand, kept in a cold room for a few days and pressed in whole bunches. This is followed by static decanting and spontaneous fermentation at around 17ºC, with brief skin contact. After fermentation, the wine remains on the fine lees until bottling, without passing through wood, fining or filtration, in a clearly non-interventionist profile.

Tasting Notes: It has a very pale salmon colour. The aroma is delicate and sophisticated, with redcurrant, pomegranate and raspberry, accompanied by notes of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it shows vibrant acidity supported by a firm, almost ‘steel’ texture, great freshness and a long, tense finish full of character. A Tejo rosé with punch, perfect for grilled fish, sushi, salads or simply afternoon snacks.

Grape Varieties: 100% Touriga Nacional, IGP Tejo, 12.5% vol., no wood.

Pale salmon pink. Pretty red-fruit aroma with a hint of bergamot. On the palate, another Mendes miracle: rich fruit, freshness, and firm, gently chewy texture yet without high alcohol. So much flavour. Succulent, mouth-watering and likely to be very versatile at the table even though you could drink this on its own. Serious yet approachable, with a long finish.

Very attractive aroma, very light and beautiful reduction, grapefruit, hibiscus and pomegranate. Crisp palate revealing excellent acidity, fresh and flavourful, raspberry and tart redcurrant, finishing with hints of limestone. A beautiful rosé, increasingly refined!

This wine's trademark herbal lining is again on show, making it a distinct, food-friendly, versatile rosé that defies expectations and asks you to reconsider Touriga Nacional. A juicy yet crunchy core of cherry, pomegranate and wild strawberry peaks through a thin layer of sage, wild fennel and oregano. The zesty freshness of blood orange offsets the pleasant weighty fleshiness of the mid palate.
