César Márquez Valtuille Vino de Villa 2023

César Márquez Valtuille Vino de Villa 2023 is the village wine from César Márquez's project, which began in 2016, and pays homage to the village of Valtuille de Abajo, where the producer was born and lived. Coming from six plots: Villegas, Matalospardos, El Val, Las Gundiñas, El Tesín de la Campana and Brazos de Lillo, with sandy-clay soils rich in sand and excellent drainage, it reflects the elegance and minerality typical of the terroir. The year 2023 was marked by a cold and rainy winter, an irregular spring and a moderate summer. The constant rains produced abundant grapes, but in small bunches, resulting in more fluid, fresh and delicate wines, reminiscent of the classic vintages of 2001 and 2021.

Vinification: Hand-picked. Fermented in 1,000-litre vats with 25% whole grapes. Each plot was vinified separately, including the natural presence of white grapes. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maceration for 15 to 21 days, with slight daily immersion of the cap. After pressing and decanting for 7 days, the wine aged for 12 months in 500L French oak barrels. Bottling: 20 January 2025.

Tasting Notes: Elegant aromas of pomegranate, violet, rose and cherry, with floral and mineral notes typical of Valtuille. On the palate, it is compact, juicy and tense, with an enveloping texture, vibrant freshness and a long, sustained finish.

Grape Varieties: 85% Mencía, 10% Alicante Bouschet and 5% white grapes.

The village red 2023 Valtuille Vino de Villa comes from sandy soils on closer plots. This year, it's 85% Mencía, 10% Alicante Bouschet and 5% other white and red varieties like Bastardo, Sousón or Estaladiña. It fermented with some full clusters in 1,000-liter vessels and matured in 500-liter barrels. It's juicy, round, harmonious and fruit-driven, with freshness and elegance. It has a moderate 12.55% alcohol, a pH of 3.51 and 5.42 grams of acidity. 6,890 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2025.

The 2023 Valtuille Vino de Villa opens with aromas of pomegranate, violet, rose and cherry. The palate is compact, juicy and tense, with a slightly more enveloping texture and a fresh, sustained finish.

From parcels in the heart of the Valtuille valley, this was only bottled two months ago at the point of tasting but was already very expressive. It offers elegance and great depth and complexity. The palate is fleshy with a firm grip, showcasing intense red cherry and raspberry fruit accented by subtle licorice. A wine with lots of character that captures the essence of the zone. 2025-2033
