Niepoort Charme Red 2022 is a rare wine from the Douro. Its elegance and complexity, its enveloping and soft tannins, are a unique way of expressing the older, fresher and more sheltered vineyards of Vale de Mendiz, in the heart of the Pinhão valley. Dirk Niepoort has found in Charme his ultimate interpretation and declared passion for the Burgundy region. A signature wine, a unique wine!

Vinification: A few small batches of wine were produced for Charme in the early stages of the harvest, using only whole bunches and traditional stone treading. After a brief period of maceration, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place in French oak barrels, where the wine aged for 15 months before bottling.

Tasting Notes: Bright, light ruby colour with very delicate aromas of cherry and raspberry, along with elegant earthy notes of forest soil and hints of tea leaves. On the palate, it is refined and intense, with magnificent freshness and an extremely elegant structure with velvety tannins. With only 10% new oak in the final blend, the subtle structure imparted by the wood blends perfectly with the freshness provided by the fruit and acidity.
