The Noval Nacional plot is a small area of ungrafted vines in the heart of the Quinta do Noval vineyard, untouched by phylloxera. The word “Nacional” refers to the fact that these vines are Portuguese vines growing on Portuguese soil, without American rootstock. The Vintage Nacional is a unique and extraordinary phenomenon. There are years when a Nacional is produced without Noval declaring a Quinta do Noval Vintage.

Only 1,680 Garradas were produced, representing just 0.43% of production.

Vinification: The Nacional plot was harvested on September 20 and is entirely done by hand. Vinification is traditional in the estate's granite wine presses, with foot treading to obtain the must and the best possible extraction of aromas, color, and tannins during fermentation. Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage ages for 18 months in oak and chestnut barrels with a capacity of 2,500 liters.

Producer's Tasting Notes: Very deep, almost opaque color. The nose is complex, marked by ripe wild fruit, with notes of plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, and licorice. In the mouth, it is dense and focused, with great concentration and broad tannins, well-defined layers, and an enveloping presence. The balanced acidity gives the wine freshness and dynamism. The finish is long, precise, and persistent. A wine with depth and structure to age for decades.
